My name is Sara Lafrance, I originally grew up in rural Massachusetts but moved to NC for college in 2016. I graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture in December 2020. Even though I developed a deep appreciation for architecture during my time at UNC, I don't wish to pursue licensure at this time. During my 2nd year I found my self more intrigued with designing the experience of a space and decided I wanted to pursue more creative and experimental opportunities to expand my design abilities and give me a better sense of creative control. This decision pushed me to enroll in several Lighting & Scenic Design courses through the theater department at UNC and to get my Certification in Classical Art & Architecture through the Institute of Classical Art and Architecture in NYC in 2018. As a 3rd year student I also entered my personal art into local juried exhibitions around Charlotte, earning Honorable Mention at the Conception Arts Show- CLT and a gallery placement at Alta Warp + Weft in Charlotte's arts district, NoDa. Most recently, I have been working as an Interior Designer at Walter E Smithe where I was surrounded by colors, textiles, and new creative projects on a daily basis. Through my work at WES, I realized that I should have been pursuing Interior Design all along, however I am confident that I can still achieve these career goals with the skill set that I developed through my Architectural degree and individual creative pursuits.
I am extremely excited to start this next chapter of my life with a much more solid understanding of who I want to be and where I see myself in the future.
