shadowbox, 2019
Created 2nd semester 3rd year, the "Shadowbox" project is a 30 year old tradition amongst 3rd year architecture students at UNCC. Students are challenged to create an object using solid modeling materials- steel, cement, resin, wood, etc. My shadowbox's concept was centered around light and opacity in architecture and how it guides the occupant through the program. It features typically opaque, solid materials like agate stone, Himalayan salt slabs, and wood pieces delicately cast in resin and suspended above a cement base by welded steel frames.
